Mentoring
I love mentoring, BEING the safe space to BE. It is my greatest joy! I happily partner with anyone open, willing, and committed to loving life, but I especially love partnering with teens! Messing around in their “mud” - their fears, stresses, dramas - is like the ultimate treasure hunt.
It thrills me like nothing else.
HOW DO I DO IT?
Through conscious whole-body play and expressive arts.
WHAT DO I DO?
Generally, if they are committed…
I show up fully grounded, open.
I meet them where they are, whatever IS, with LOTS of curiosity, and compassion. All feelings welcome.
I practice whole body listening - no judgement, filters, need to fix - notice body language, words, qualities of voice, breathing patterns, posture, and energy.
I mirror, hold space, intuit openings for a shift.
I invite the noticing of any body sensations. I wonder what adjectives, colors, textures, shapes, sounds, images, etc., might describe them.
I invite breath and movement.
I wonder what “mud” they might want to explore.
Once “the mud” is identified, we choose: “What tool might they want to use?
The options are endless and unique - often customized on the spot! Movements, persona play, sounds, writing, doodling, drawing, pretending, painting, singing, games, breathing techniques, mime, air sculpting, improv, exaggerating a posture or face, telling their story in gibberish, with hands, puppets, drums, balls in a gym - all are possibilities. All serve to sift and shift.
HOW DO I GET RESULTS?
The benefits of attention and play are well documented. Combined, they provide a wide foundation for learning and change. For me, seeing the light of discovery shine in their eyes like gems, fuels my soul like nothing else… except maybe heartwarming appreciations.
Testimonials
From a mother of a 17-year-old:
“You are a treasure! I’m so grateful my teenager has you in her life. I notice a boost in her confidence, lightness, and joy after your sessions.”My favorite from a student
“You’ve given me tools for getting through the anxieties and tough days at school and work and helped me to center myself wherever I am. You helped me to get out of the story, out of my head and into my body and feelings. I love working with you!”
It doesn’t get much better than that.
